Hisense TV Error Code E101: Wi-Fi Authentication Failure

Error code E101 on a Hisense TV typically signals a Wi-Fi authentication failure. This means the television has attempted to connect to your wireless network but was rejected, either because the password entered was incorrect or because there was a mismatch between the TV’s security protocol settings and those of your router.

What Is an Authentication Failure?

When a device attempts to join a Wi-Fi network, it must present the correct password and negotiate a matching security protocol (such as WPA2 or WPA3) with the router. If either of these elements does not match, the router denies the connection request, resulting in an authentication error.

E101 specifically suggests this handshake process has failed on the TV’s end.

Causes of E101

The most straightforward cause is an incorrect password. This sounds simple, but Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive, and it is easy to make a typo when entering them using a TV remote. Another common cause is that the router’s security mode has recently changed — for example, if you or your ISP upgraded from WPA2 to WPA3, the TV may not support the newer protocol.

MAC address filtering on the router can also block the TV from connecting, as can a router that has reached its maximum number of simultaneous device connections.

How to Fix E101

Re-enter the Wi-Fi Password Navigate to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi, select your network, choose Forget, and then reconnect by carefully re-entering your password. Take care to use the correct case for each character.

Check Your Router’s Security Settings Log into your router’s admin panel (usually accessible via a web browser at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and check which security protocol it is using. For the best compatibility with Hisense TVs, WPA2-AES is recommended.

Disable MAC Address Filtering If your router has MAC address filtering enabled, either disable it or add your Hisense TV’s MAC address to the allowed list. You can find the TV’s MAC address under Settings > Network > Network Status.

Restart the Router Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. A fresh router session can resolve authentication inconsistencies.

Factory Reset Network Settings On the TV, navigate to Settings > Network and look for an option to reset network settings to default. This clears any corrupted network configuration that may be preventing authentication.
