TCL TVs Ethernet / Wired Connection Issues

TCL TVs Ethernet / Wired Connection Issues

While most TCL TV users connect via Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection offers a more stable and faster connection for streaming — particularly for high-bandwidth content such as 4K HDR video. However, Ethernet connections on TCL TVs can also encounter specific problems, and the TV surfaces dedicated error codes (011, 012, 013) when a wired connection issue is detected.

Why Use Ethernet?

A wired Ethernet connection eliminates the interference, signal strength, and range issues that can affect Wi-Fi. It provides a consistent, low-latency connection that is particularly beneficial for:

  • Streaming 4K content without buffering.
  • Reducing error codes caused by weak Wi-Fi signal.
  • Ensuring stable firmware downloads and updates.
  • Maintaining a reliable connection in environments with heavy Wi-Fi congestion.

Note: Ethernet ports are available on TCL Roku 4K models and most Android/Google TV models. Entry-level HD Roku models typically only support Wi-Fi.

Common Ethernet Issues on TCL TVs

Faulty Ethernet cable — Damaged, kinked, or low-quality cables cause intermittent connections or no connection at all.

Unsecured cable connections — The RJ45 connector must click firmly into both the TV’s Ethernet port and the router’s LAN port.

Wrong router port — Plugging the cable into the router’s WAN port (for incoming internet) rather than one of the LAN ports (for connected devices) will result in no connectivity.

Router DHCP issue — The router may fail to assign an IP address to the TV over the wired connection.

Damaged Ethernet port on the TV — Physical damage to the TV’s Ethernet port can prevent a reliable connection.

General Wired Connection Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Physically inspect the Ethernet cable for damage and ensure both ends are firmly seated.
  2. Try a different Ethernet cable to rule out a faulty cable.
  3. Connect the cable to a different LAN port on the router.
  4. Restart both the TV and router.
  5. Test the same cable with another device (laptop or computer) to confirm the cable and router port are functioning.
  6. On the TV, navigate to Settings → Network → Wired → Set Up New Wired Connection to reinitiate the wired connection.
