Hisense TV Error Code E301: Backlight Failure Error

Error code E301 on a Hisense TV is associated with a backlight failure or malfunction. The backlight is a critical component in LCD and LED televisions — it is the light source that illuminates the liquid crystal display from behind, making the image visible. Without it, the screen appears completely dark even though the TV may be fully functional in every other respect.

Recognizing E301

The most telling sign of a backlight issue is a TV that appears to be running (you can hear audio, the remote still works, the power light is on) but the screen displays nothing visible, or shows only a very faint image when you shine a flashlight at the screen at close range.

E301 specifically indicates that the TV’s diagnostic system has detected a fault in the backlight circuitry.

Causes

LED backlights are made up of strips of LEDs behind the panel. Individual LEDs or entire strips can fail over time, particularly on TVs that have been used for many years. High-brightness settings accelerate LED degradation.

The LED driver board — the circuit responsible for powering the backlights — can also fail due to a power surge, capacitor degradation, or manufacturing defects.

In some cases, the backlight inverter on older CCFL-backlit Hisense models may fail, producing the same symptom.

Solutions

Power Cycle the TV Disconnect the TV from power for 60 seconds, then reconnect. Occasionally, a temporary fault in the backlight driver causes E301 without actual hardware failure.

Adjust Brightness Settings If the TV is partially functional, navigate to Settings > Picture and reduce the backlight or brightness setting. Excessively high brightness can stress LED components.

Check Warranty Coverage Backlight failure within the warranty period is generally covered by Hisense’s warranty. Contact Hisense support with your model and serial number to initiate a repair claim.

Professional LED Strip Replacement Out of warranty, LED backlight strip replacement is a relatively common and affordable repair that a qualified technician can perform. It involves opening the TV, removing the panel, and replacing the damaged LED strips.
