Hisense TV Error Code E304: Panel Communication Error

Error code E304 on a Hisense TV indicates a panel communication error. This error occurs when the main processing board and the display panel have lost the ability to communicate correctly. Unlike E302 (T-Con error) or E303 (main board error), E304 points specifically to a breakdown in the data link between these two components.

Understanding Panel Communication

The display panel and the main board in a television are in constant, high-speed communication. Millions of times per second, the main board sends information about the color and brightness of every pixel on screen, and the T-Con board and panel drivers interpret and execute these instructions. The physical link between them consists of flat ribbon cables (LVDS or eDP cables), which carry this data.

What Causes E304

A loose, damaged, or incorrectly seated ribbon cable between the main board and the T-Con board is the most frequent cause of E304. These cables can work loose over time, particularly in TVs that have been moved or transported.

A failure in the LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) or eDP output circuitry on the main board can also sever this communication link. Similarly, a fault in the T-Con board’s input receiver circuitry can cause the same error from the other direction.

Symptoms

E304 typically presents as a completely blank or white screen. In some cases, the TV may display a brief flash of image on startup before going blank, indicating that communication is intermittent rather than completely absent.

Solutions

Re-seat the Ribbon Cables Open the rear of the TV and locate the LVDS or eDP ribbon cables connecting the main board to the T-Con board. Carefully disconnect and reconnect them, ensuring the connectors are fully and evenly seated. This is the most common fix for E304 and does not require replacing any components.

Inspect Cables for Damage Examine the ribbon cables for any visible creases, tears, or damage. A damaged cable must be replaced with an identical part.

Replace Affected Components If re-seating the cables does not resolve E304, either the main board or the T-Con board may need replacement. A technician can diagnose which component is at fault.
