Error 014 on a TCL Roku TV is a Wi-Fi connection failure — the TV attempted to connect to a wireless network but could not complete the connection. It is one of the most commonly encountered error codes on TCL Roku TVs and is usually the result of a straightforward issue such as a wrong network name, a password error, or a router problem.
What Error 014 Means
Error 014 is a broad wireless connectivity failure code. It tells you that the TV could not successfully join the Wi-Fi network you selected. This is distinct from sub-codes like 014.40 (wrong password) or 014.50 (weak signal), which point to more specific causes. A plain Error 014 without a decimal extension typically means the connection attempt failed at the network level — the TV could not negotiate a connection with the router.
Common Causes of Error 014
- Wrong network selected — The TV is attempting to connect to a neighbouring network or a different network in the list.
- Router restarted with changed settings — If the router was recently reset or reconfigured, its SSID or password may have changed.
- Router refusing the connection — MAC address filtering, access control lists, or other router security settings may be blocking the TV.
- 5 GHz compatibility issue — Some older TCL TV models only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and cannot connect to a 5 GHz-only network.
- Router DHCP failure — The router is not assigning IP addresses, preventing the TV from completing the connection.
How to Fix Error 014
Step 1: Confirm the correct network name (SSID) is selected. Look carefully — network names can be very similar, especially in apartment buildings.
Step 2: Re-enter the Wi-Fi password. Navigate to Settings → Network → Wireless and select your network, then carefully re-enter the password, noting case sensitivity.
Step 3: Restart the router and TV. Allow both to fully reboot before attempting to reconnect.
Step 4: On the router admin panel, check whether MAC address filtering or access control is enabled and, if so, add the TV’s wireless MAC address to the allowed list.
Step 5: If your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under separate names, try connecting to the 2.4 GHz network specifically.
Step 6: On the TV, forget the network entirely and set up the connection from scratch via Settings → Network → Set Up Connection.
