TCL TVs Error 016
Error 016 on a TCL Roku TV occurs when the TV loses its internet connection at the moment you try to launch a streaming channel. Unlike Error 009 (which indicates no internet from the start), Error 016 appears mid-session — the TV was connected, but the connection dropped just as a channel was being launched.
What Error 016 Means
Error 016 is specifically a streaming channel launch error. It means the TV was successfully connected to the internet at some point (recently enough to reach the home screen), but when you attempted to open a streaming channel and the TV reached out to the internet to load it, the connection was no longer available. The error message typically reads: “Your Roku player is currently not connected to the Internet.”
Common Causes of Error 016
- Intermittent Wi-Fi connection — The connection drops and reconnects periodically, and the timing of the drop coincides with channel launch.
- Router has disconnected — The router lost its internet connection after the TV’s home screen loaded.
- ISP outage — The internet service has gone down since the TV last refreshed its connection.
- Network lease expiry — The TV’s IP address lease from the router has expired and the connection has dropped pending renewal.
- Channel server issue — The specific streaming service is experiencing a server problem.
How to Fix Error 016
Step 1: Select Set Up Connection on the error screen and attempt to reconnect to the network.
Step 2: Restart the router and TV. Allow both to fully reconnect before trying the channel again.
Step 3: Test the internet connection on another device to confirm whether the broader network is functioning.
Step 4: Navigate to Settings → Network on the TV and run the network connection test to check the current status.
Step 5: If the channel still fails but the connection test passes, the issue may be with the channel’s servers. Check the service’s status page and try again after a few minutes.
Step 6: Remove and reinstall the problematic channel if it fails consistently while other channels work.
