Error 005 typically surfaces during setup, activation, or when launching a streaming service. It signals that while the TV may be connected to the local network, the outgoing connection to a specific internet server has failed. This can be the result of a network-side problem (router, modem, or ISP) or a server-side problem (Roku or the streaming service itself being temporarily unavailable).

Common Causes of Error 005

  • Internet connection failure — The TV cannot reach any external servers because the internet connection is down.
  • Server-side outage — The Roku or streaming service server is temporarily unreachable.
  • Router DNS issue — The router cannot resolve domain names to IP addresses, preventing the TV from locating remote servers.
  • Firewall or network restriction — The router or ISP is blocking the TV’s outbound connections.
  • IP address conflict on the network — Two devices sharing the same IP address can cause erratic connectivity.

How to Fix Error 005

Step 1: Confirm internet access by testing another device on the same network.
