What Error 012 Means
When Error 012 appears, the TCL Roku TV has attempted to use its Ethernet port to connect to the network but has detected that the wired connection is not functioning correctly. This could be because the cable is not properly connected, the cable itself is damaged, or there is a physical problem with the port or the connected device.
Common Causes of Error 012
- Loose Ethernet cable — The cable is not firmly clicked into the TV’s Ethernet port or the router’s LAN port.
- Damaged Ethernet cable — A kinked, frayed, or broken cable prevents a reliable signal from passing through.
- Wrong router port — The Ethernet cable is connected to the router’s WAN port instead of a LAN port.
- Faulty router LAN port — The specific LAN port on the router that the TV is connected to has failed.
- Damaged TV Ethernet port — Physical damage to the TV’s RJ45 port prevents a solid connection.
How to Fix Error 012
Step 1: Unplug the Ethernet cable from both ends and firmly reconnect it. You should hear and feel a click when the RJ45 connector seats correctly in both the TV and the router.
Step 2: Inspect the Ethernet cable carefully for visible damage — kinks, exposed wiring, bent connector pins, or a broken locking tab. Replace the cable if any damage is found.
Step 3: Move the Ethernet cable to a different LAN port on the router to rule out a faulty port.
Step 4: Test the same cable on a different device (such as a laptop) to confirm the cable itself works.
Step 5: On the TV, navigate to Settings → Network → Wired → Set Up New Wired Connection and allow the TV to renegotiate the wired connection.
